How Solar Power works

Types of Residential Solar Systems:

Grid-tied System

Your Solar panels capture energy from the sun’s radiation and turn it into DC electricity, which is sent to your inverter. Your inverter creates usable AC power and distributes this to your home’s switchboard for use, and any excess not needed back to the grid. When the sun is down, you will use the grid for electricity.

Hybrid System

A hybrid system is a Solar power system that incorporates batteries in your installation to store energy. The solar system will produce power for your use and excess electricity will be stored in the battery. You will be able to use stored power during times the sun is not shining or during a power cut.

Off-Grid

Off grid allows you to live without the reliance on a utility company. If you’re living in a part of New Zealand where there is no mains power, this is the perfect solution. Or if you just want to quit being connected to the grid. Off-grid means that battery storage is to be installed so that you’re backed up when the sun is not out to deliver live energy.

Batteries

A Battery system takes you even further by storing surplus Solar generation for use at any time, increasing your savings, and providing additional backup power in case of a blackout. If you, for example, already have a Solar system installed and want to add batteries to it, we have the perfect solution.

Should You Add Solar Batteries to Your Solar Power System?

Unsure whether you should opt for a Solar Battery system? Our team can help with this decision too.

Power generated from your solar panels is used in live time, however, having a Solar Battery system will result in higher savings. If your home is prone to power cuts, Solar could be the perfect solution. Or, if you want to rely on Solar Power in the evening once the sun is down, Solar could be the perfect solution. Solar panels are used to their optimum once they’re connected to a Battery System because no power is going to waste, it makes it’s way to your Battery System.

Our Recent Stories

“The team at Solar Group has done a great job fitting and activating the system. We are now fully up and running and pushing through 5kWp on each of the inverters. At the moment, any excess power is going back to the grid.”
