Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

How does Solar work?

Q: How does solar work?

A: It depends on what solar solution you have.  For both Solar Hot Water and Solar Pool Heating the sun will heat the water. For solar power, your panels capture the sunlight and covert it into direct current (DC). Your inverter then converts DC into alternate current (AC), which then powers your home in real time. If you a solar battery, excess energy will be stored for later use, like when the sun is down. Click here for more details.

Q: What happens during a power-cut?

A: You will have no power. However, if you have a solar hybrid battery with an islanding function, your home will use the energy stored to back up your home. For more details how this works, click here.

Q: Will my unused solar power go to waste?

A: No. Your excess power will be sold to the grid.

Q: Will my panels still generate solar power in the winter/cloudy days?

A: Yes. Our highly efficient solar panels will generate power on cloudy days or in winter.

Solar Savings & Money

Q: What is the payback period on solar?

A: This depends on the solar solution.

  1. Solar power= On average, 8 years. This directly correlated to the price of unit per power
  1. Solar pool heating= On average 1-5 years
  1. Solar Hot Water  On average 7 years

A: You can install your own system given that you have the knowledge and skills around solar and electricity.

Q: Do I need building consent to install solar?

A: You do not need to build consent for solar power and solar pool heating installations; however, you DO need building consent for solar hot water.

Q: What happens after my installation?

A: Your system is ready to use immediately. There is a warranty on our products, therefore, our team will be one phone call away to help with any questions you may have along the way.

Technical

Q: How many solar panels do I need?

This depends on how much solar energy you would like to use as opposed to grid connected power. Take a two-minute solar analysis here to find out or reach out to our team if you would like a solar quote.

Q: What solar batteries do you have?

A: We stock Alpha-ESS battery systems. Alpha-ESS was ranked top 5 global supplier for solar batteries in 2020. Click here for more information.

Q: My home is three-phase, can you help?

A: Yes. We have three-phase solar systems.

Q: I do not have space on my roof for panels, what can I do?

A: Another option is to build a ground mount to lay panels on. This is ideal if you have land available. The benefit of this option is that we can customise the position of the solar panels to optimise the level of sunlight captured.

“I now have an EV, which I predominantly charge over the weekends with the assistance of solar energy! I see that my actual solar energy production for the first year was a lot more than the estimate in the quotation, which is a good thing. Like all of us, I am still waiting for the price of batteries to come down so that I can have a small battery setup to help ease peak consumption and store solar energy.
