Camping and Solar – hand in hand
Situated on a peninsula in the Raglan Harbour, the land that the campground occupies is almost entirely surrounded by water, a classic New Zealand Camping icon.
Camp managers, Mary and Rob Clark realized that the existing water system is getting toward the end of its lifespan with increasing maintenance bills and a shortage of hot water.
The idea of solar was an appealing one, and thanks to public funding, the dream came true.
The 24 Edwards titan collectors with the 3 x 1,000-litre water tanks are keeping up with demand during the summer peak period and are saving thousands of dollars and the environment.
Education signage provides some good information to those curious camp visitors.
